A Star Is Born

A Star Is Born

By Alan Shipnuck

The sports world, with its boom/bust duality, is less patient. Jacob Bridgeman had been considered a star-in-waiting since 2022 when, as a Clemson Tiger, he won the ACC Championship and finished second in the PGA TOUR University rankings. Bridgeman apprenticed for a year on the Korn Ferry Tour and then reached the bright lights of the PGA TOUR. He should have won last year at Tampa but, when he didn’t, the golf world quickly moved on to the next shiny object. For Bridgeman, 26, that tie for second changed something within him. “I think once that first [near-miss] happened I realized, Oh, it's not as hard as I thought it was going to be,” he says. “I kind of started running with it and started piecing some good rounds together. I realized it doesn't take four perfect rounds and 18 perfect holes to do that. I think that has kind of trended into maybe my goal [back then] was top-10, now my goal’s to win.”

From submerged to superb. Tiger’s waterlogged lay-up leads to an all-world par at the 2013 @cognizantclassic. #TigerTuesday

@serenawilliams following Tiger back when the old cell phone policy was in effect. 🤣 (2013, @cognizantclassic) #TigerTuesday

“Greenskeeper’s worst nightmare.” 🤣 Which @thegenesisinv chip from the green was your favorite?

One year ago today, @brian_campbell4 got the bounce of a lifetime to set up his first win on TOUR.

Affordable golf, no dress code, a par-3 loop and super dog friendly? @zanemoulton shares why we need more places like @goathillpark.

He made it tough on himself at the end, but Jacob Bridgeman is a PGA TOUR winner. 🏆

You won’t get this reaction on the broadcast.

You hate to see it.

Scottie birdies 17 to move to T8. He was in last place after the first round. He’s currently made 18 straight top 10s. 👀

People were falling over each other to watch Tiger at Riv. 😭

Could Rory get it done today starting 6 back? Throwback to when he overcame the same deficit to steal the 2022 TOUR Championship from Scottie.

Don’t think Fluff was buying the early walk here. 🤣 ‘98 @thegenesisinv

“I wish I could hit it like that.” Even @TigerWoods was impressed by Jacob Bridgeman’s seven wood for a tap-in eagle. 👀

@jonrahm banks one off the grandstand to set up eagle at the 2023 @thegenesisinv. Watch the full compilation of the luckiest bounces on TOUR now at the link in bio.

Had to bring back this banger for Chuck’s big day. 🤣
