In what could be considered one of the biggest full brand and manufacturing acquisitions in the golf business over the last decade, TaylorMade is officially announcing the full purchase of the custom putter maker Logan Olson.
This announcement acknowledges a deal that has been in the works for quite some time after rumors started to swirl almost a year to the date when Scottie Scheffler arrived at the Hero World Challenge with a brand new Olsen putter in the bag. Scottie went on to win that week in the Bahamas by three shots over Sepp Straka.
It not only proved that Olson was capable of making putters that could win at the highest level, but that he also has an extreme attention to detail to meet the needs of the world's best golfers.

“It’s not every day you stumble upon someone like Logan," said Brian Bazzel, TaylorMade VP of Product Creation. "His ability to merge creativity with such a technical process is nothing short of remarkable. Whether you’re a professional on Tour, someone who plays the game for the sheer love of it, or even a collector with a keen eye for finely crafted putters, Logan’s creations embody a level of craftsmanship that resonates with golfers from all abilities.”
As part of the deal, Olson will continue to work out of his shop in Fortuna California and continue to craft small batch putters. One of the biggest ongoing projects for Olson will be creating a Tour Matrix of blade and mid-mallet putters That TaylorMade tour reps will use to fit the best players in the world.
“I’ve always appreciated that TaylorMade is a brand that isn’t afraid to take risks and try something different," Olson said. "I feel a resemblance to that in my own work and thoughts on approaching new projects. Being able to utilize the feedback of the best players in the world helps push design criteria to a completely different place.”

That tour player feedback loop is something I experienced firsthand this past year at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am when I watched Logan work with Scottie Scheffler and his team over the course of two days with multiple putters. This was pre-switch to the L-Neck Spider, but Logan was meticulous in his communication with Scottie and as far as player/builder interactions were concerned, it was one of the most fascinating exchanges I had ever witnessed.
Now if you’re curious to get an inside look at Olson's shop, we at Skratch recently had the chance to check it out, and in the video, which also contains some (not known to us at the time) easter eggs that Logan might have been working more closely with the team at TaylorMade and its athletes than let on.
