Vokey Reveals Limited Edition Modern Oil Can Finish on SM10 Wedges

As a call back to previous generations, Vokey is bringing back the Oil Can finish with a modern twist for the SM10 wedges.

If you're a golfer of a certain age, you might remember that at one point Titleist Vokey wedges came with the option of an "oil can" finish. This shiny, oily, finish was less designed to be a long-term look and was actually intended to protect raw wedges from rusting. This often caused confusion with some golfers who didn't want the look of rusty clubs and eventually the oil can finish was retired in favor of platted finishes, or fully raw wedges through custom order.

But, what goes around comes around and for a limited time with the SM10 wedges, oil can in BACK, (mostly), so let's talk about it.

What are SM10 oil can wedges all about?

The new Titleist Vokey SM10 oil can wedges have all of the same technology you'd expect from the SM10 line; spin milled grooves, heat-treated face for durability, adjusted CoG (center of gravity) through the loft options, and all 27 loft and bounce combinations available - but now with a limited edition finish.

But, as I mentioned, this is a modern oil can finish and to prevent the wedges from rusting (look if you want raw rusty wedges, you can stiff order those through Vokey custom) the finish is applied through a PVD treatment. This allows the wedge to maintain the look of the original oil can but without the rusting. It will still wear around the high use areas of the sole and face but only down to the duller chrome.

“A player has to love their wedge when they look down at it, and finish plays a key role,” said Master Craftsman Bob Vokey. “Having confidence in your wedge at address is hugely important.”
