The Tale of Two Captions

By now you've probably seen it. The most infamous caption in the golf internet-sphere right now. Tiger Woods made things 'gram official, hard launching his relationship while simultaneously asking the world for "privacy".

The whole thing feels a bit...manufactured? From being posted Sunday at 7pm on the dot to the punctuation making it read like an email (it was also edited 20 hours ago???)—this is for sure a contender for worst IG couple caption of all time—and golf Twitter (yes, I still call it Twitter!!!) agrees. People are having a field day.

But hey! Love is in the air, people. And who are we to knock Big Cat's sudden (albeit strange) declaration of adoration?

On the flip side...there's most recent PGA TOUR winner Viktor Hovland, who executed the perfect tongue-and-cheek post after his victory at Valspar.

Now this is how you write a caption. Now of course, the occasion is different, but this is raw, real, and unfiltered—and makes you appreciate Vik even more. He knows his golf game has been less than stellar lately, and in gearing up for the Masters, a win was much needed, and no one knows or feels that more than Hovland.

The heavy-metal Norwegian is a strange guy but we love him for it—and we seriously appreciate him celebrating his win with such a W caption.

The lesson here folks is, Do: write IG captions from the heart (with a hint of self deprecation). Don't: ChatGPT your social media hard launch while asking people to leave you alone because you will become a meme in less than 24 hours.
