Trunk Slammin’: Big Names Who Missed the Cut at the Houston Open

While World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler leads the way, there are plenty of notables headed home early.

For the guys out on TOUR, missing a cut this close to a major championship isn't exactly the best confidence builder. We're less than two weeks away from driving down Magnolia Lane and the pressure is starting to build.

While World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler leads and Min Woo Lee sits one back, there are plenty of big names leaving Houston a few days early.

The 36-hole cut came in at 3-under 137 with 69—nice—guys earning weekend tee times. The names below aren't included in that group.

Big Names to Miss the Cut at the Houston Open

J.J. Spaun (71-67, 2 under)

The runner-up to Rory McIlroy at THE PLAYERS played some good golf on Friday, but it wasn't enough to offset a slow 1-over start on Thursday.

Nick Dunlap (72-66, 2 under)

Like Spaun, Dunlap played much better on Friday but still came up short in his effort to make it to the weekend.

Si Woo Kim (73-67, Even)

Kim needed a solo-third finish or better to get an invite to the Masters via world ranking, but an opening round of 3 over was too much to overcome.

Nicolai Hojgaard (69-72, 1 over)

Since finishing eighth in Mexico and T-18 at the Cognizant Classic, Hojgaard has now missed three straight cuts: THE PLAYERS, Valspar Championship, and Houston Open.

Aaron Rai (73-68, 1 over)

The Englishman was one of the betting favorites coming into the week and for good reason. He had three straight top-20 finishes at Memorial Park and entered the week with three straight top-15s on TOUR. Another example of this game making no sense.

Padraig Harrington (74-71, 5 over)

The legend plays most of his golf on the Champions tour now, but this was his second start on the big tour this season. He missed the cut in Mexico and is now headed home early again.
