PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Earlier Thursday, the PGA TOUR announced that Ryan Fox had withdrawn from THE PLAYERS Championship prior to the first round. It might have been good news for David Ford, who got into the field, but not for the Kiwi.
Hours after withdrawing from the event, Fox posted to Instagram to tell his fans that kidney stones took him down on Tuesday and had to have surgery on Thursday.

“Devastated to miss out on such an amazing event, hoping to have a quick recovery and be back at it soon,” Fox wrote.
In four TOUR starts this season, Fox has three T-24 finishes and a tie for seventh at the Genesis Invitational. He’s made three PLAYERS starts in his career: T-27 (2023), MC (2024), and T-20 (2025). Given form and course history, Fox had a shot to contend over the weekend in Ponte Vedra.
Hoping for a speedy recovery, Foxy!
