Rory Is Back. The FedExCup Playoffs Are Here. Here’s What You Need to Know.

Welcome to the postseason. I don’t know how we’re already here, but the regular season is behind us and the top 70 in the FedExCup Standings have made their way to Memphis, Tennessee, for the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind.

Come Sunday afternoon, after the winner is crowned, the top 50 in the standings will advance to the BMW Championship at Bellerive—and there are some big names who need to contend to stay alive another week.

Max Homa (52nd), Jordan Spieth (54th), Shane Lowry (62nd), and Jackson Koivun (70th) are among the biggest names fighting to keep their seasons alive for another week.

Spieth hasn't finished inside the top 10 all season long, but one at Southwind would all but guarantee him a spot at the middle playoff event.

But I'm more interested to see what Koivun does. Despite making just five starts as a pro, Koivun made it to the playoffs and already has a win to his name. If he can make it to Bellerive, it's hard to picture a scenario where he doesn't make the Presidents Cup team.

After skipping this event a year ago, Rory McIlroy is set to tee it up Thursday. He hasn’t played since The Open, and according to Brad Faxon, just picked up a club again for the first time post-Royal Birkdale three days ago. No doubt the World No. 2 will be a little rusty.
