Alan Shipnuck Shares Details About His New Rory Book

The prolific golf writer and author joined Dan Rapaport's new livecast show, 'Dan on Golf' to discuss why "Rory is the only modern character who can actually carry a book".

This one's for all the DOGs. (Sorry, Drake...literally.) Dan On Golf is finally here. The first episode of the liveshow for golf sickos is here and it brought some heat! From live calls with Joel Dahmen and Mr. 80/60 to discussing Tiger Woods' WD from Genesis this week—the inaugural episode didn't shy away from covering a wide variety of topics over its many segments.

Perhaps the most notable segment came towards the end (at the 01:35:30 mark to be exact) when golf writer and author, but most importantly Rapaport's "journalism dad," Alan Shipnuck joined to discuss his new book that's currently in the works.

The segment is a must-watch, between two long standing friends and golf-obsessed people who can engage in conversations about and around golf like no others can. Shipnuck didn't shy away from sharing his thoughts on TGL, the state of LIV, and how he thinks Rory McIlroy is "undeniably the most interesting player of the post Tiger era and only getting more interesting," and how that makes him worthy of a book, like those on Tiger or Phil.

And Shipnuck would know, he's authored nine books, including the very raw, unauthorized biography of Phil Mickelson that landed the former Sports Illustrated and Golf Magazine writer on the New York Times bestseller list and the national bestsellers Bud, Sweat, & Tees and The Swinger (with Michael Bamberger) detailing the ever-interesting Rich Beem's life on tour.

"I think Rory is the only modern character who can actually carry a book as far as the scope of his life, the depth of his thinking and the passion that he, kind of, enflames," shares Shipnuck.

"Rory, he creates emotion. That’s why the Phil book worked. Love him or hate him, Phil evokes emotion and I think Rory is in that same camp now."

The banter between Rapaport and Shipnuck was enchanting to watch and you and it created the space for very honest and thought provoking comments. In being so candid about the current state of the game, we can't wait to see exactly how Shipnuck captures the aura of McIlroy's career, especially as he grows into one of the figure heads of the PGA Tour.
