Looks like the TGL is getting ready to expand both on the team front and maybe even into a women's league.
Sports Business Journal reported that conversations are advancing at TMRW Sports (the company behind TGL) entered around adding another team into the fold. TMRW Sports CEO and co-founder Mike McCarley said the expansion plans would “start with one (new team) and then it’ll grow from there.”
McCarley, who co-founded TMRW Sports with Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy spoke candidly about the moves on a recent panel with Alexis Ohanian, owner of the TGL’s Los Angeles Golf Club.
We can't wait to hear about new team power being added to the lineup, but there was another interesting tidbit that caught our attention from the conversation.
Ohanian, who co-founded Reddit and husband of tennis star Serena Williams, said he’s been in the circuit’s ear for a while about adding a women’s league.
“I’ve been bugging these guys about the LPGA deal for a minute,” Ohanian said. “They have been very interested. It’s just these things take time, and I’m not allowed to make any news.”
McCarley added it’s “no secret” that the TGL is working on that and that “most of our team owners are right behind them in that area, too.”
That got us thinking, what LPGA stars do we need to see in the SoFi Center? Here are our five top choices.
Charley Hull

This indoor league is all about entertainment, and you’d be hard pressed to find a bigger personality than Charley Hull. The Englishwoman brings the fire to every event she plays in and would feed off the crowd.
Nelly Korda

We need the No. 1 player in the world. Simple as that. I don’t think we need to explain this choice much.
Brooke Henderson

The Canadian has one of the most unique moves in the sport. We’d love to watch it on Monday and Tuesday nights.
Rose Zhang

It wouldn’t feel right not to have Rose involved. She is THE up-and-coming talent in the entire sport and a huge fan-favorite. She’d put asses in seats.
Megan Khang

I’m from New England, so this pick might be a little biased. But Khang is one of my favorite players to watch during the Solheim Cup because she brings the energy. She feeds off the crowd. She’d be the perfect player for this kind of environment.
