Jason Day has withdrawn from the U.S. Open after playing 10 holes of his opening round at Shinnecock Hills.

Starting on No. 10, Day made seven bogeys to post a front-nine 7-over 42. He made the turn and made par at the first, but withdrew after that with a back injury.

The Aussie has a long history of back injuries, so this is worth keeping an eye on in the next few weeks and the remainder of the PGA TOUR season. Coming into the week, his last top-30 finish came at the Masters in April.
