Missing a cut just days before the year’s first major championship isn’t exactly what these guys were looking for, but TPC San Antonio got the best of them and they'll leave the Valero Texas Open a few days early.
Ludvig Aberg and Akshay Bhatia are just two of the big names that were trunk slammin’ Friday afternoon in the Lone Star State. On the bright side, they’ll have an extra few days to tune up their game before the Masters.
The 36-hole cut in San Antonio came in at 2-under 142.

Since winning the Genesis Invitational, Aberg has tied for 22nd at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and missed the weekend at both THE PLAYERS and now Valero. He’ll make his second Masters appearance next week after a solo second behind Scottie Scheffler at Augusta in 2024.
Akshay Bhatia (74-70, Even)

Bhatia entered the week as the Valero defending champion and fresh off the heels of a T-3 finish at THE PLAYERS. This one’s a little bit of a shocker. He’ll make his second Masters appearance next week (he tied for 35th last season).
Hideki Matsuyama (73-72, 1 over)

Like Aberg, Matsuyama tied for 22nd at the API and has now missed the cut at THE PLAYERS and Valero. The 2021 Green Jacket winner will make his 14th Masters start next week.
Max Homa (76-71, 3 over)

Homa split with his longtime caddie Joe Greiner this week, but he’s missed another cut. He’s now missed five straight cuts. The search continues for the former World No. 5.
Jake Knapp (74-74, 4 over)

The last month has been a mixed bag for Knapp. He tied for 12th at THE PLAYERS and for 27th at the Texas Children’s Houston Open, but he missed the cut at the Valspar Championship and is now going home early again. He needed a win to get into the Masters.
Tom Kim (77-71, 4 over)

Outside of a T-7 finish at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, this season hasn’t been kind to Kim. He’s now missed three cuts in nine starts and doesn’t have another finish inside the top 35.
Matt Fitzpatrick (76-72, 4 over)

This is Fitzpatrick’s third missed cut in seven starts this season and he’s yet to log a top-20 finish. The search for form continues for the Englishman.
Kevin Kisner (75-73, 4 over)
