Back in 2023, Wyndham Clark arrived at Los Angeles Country Club with newfound confidence. He had just won the Wells Fargo Championship—now known as the Truist—and realized he could compete with the best players in the world. We all know how that U.S. Open ended, with Clark outlasting the likes of Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler.
But it didn’t take long for the celebration to take a turn for the worse.
During an appearance on Monday’s episode of Dan on Golf, Clark told a never-before-heard story about the morning after his major championship victory.
After signing some autographs, celebrating with 40-50 family and friends, and a whole lot of adult beverages, Clark woke up Monday morning to head to New York for a press tour. That’s when things turned sideways.
“I order, a dumb order, of lox and bagels in the morning,” he recalled. “I eat the lox and bagels. We get in the car, and I have to pull over, and I am throwing up so much. And then I tear the lining in my stomach. And I actually had to go to the hospital.”
Clark ended up staying in the hospital for two or three hours, then made his way to New York, where one of his visits included Good Morning America.
Obviously, throwing up and having to go to the hospital sucks, but at the same time, he had the U.S. Open trophy in the back of his car. So, it wasn’t all bad.
