One of the first things Bryson DeChambeau said after his final-round 3-over 75 with the Green Jacket on the line was that Rory McIlroy wouldn’t talk to him all day. Here’s what he said:
I will give Bryson credit, he didn’t have to talk with the media after a tough day. Last June, we saw McIlroy speed away from Pinehurst No. 2 after failing to close out the U.S. Open. So he deserves some respect there. 100%.
But what did people love most about Tiger Woods’ 2019 win among the Georgia Pines? That he locked in and didn’t even address any of his playing partners.
Tony Finau said he asked Tiger at one point how his kids were doing and the GOAT gave a simple, “they’re good.” At that moment, Finau knew what he was dealing with.
Rory did the same exact thing. Why is it a problem when he does it? The LIV bots and Bryson tracker accounts were big mad.
But what Bryson didn’t mention was Rory and him sharing a handshake and interaction before they teed off the first. When you’re trying to win the Career Grand Slam, that feels like enough.
I just don’t understand the backlash on this. Competitors compete. At these events, buddy-buddy doesn’t exist. Lock in and get it done.
And that’s just what the kid from Northern Irishman did. End of story.
