I kinda feel bad for the RBC Heritage. How the hell is it supposed to follow that level of Masters up!?
Despite coming off the heels of the greatest Masters of all time, the RBC Heritage is the fifth signature event of the season, so the field is chock-full of the world’s best players—except Rory McIlroy, but I think we all can agree he’s earned a few weeks off.
World No. 1 and defending champion Scottie Scheffler is back in Hilton Head looking for his first win of the season as he hopes to rekindle some of that Harbour Town magic once again. He’s joined on the tee sheet by Ludvig Aberg, Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, and Justin Thomas, among others.
This week’s winner will go home with $3.6 million of the $20 million purse and 700 FedEx Cup points. Thanks to its elevated status, there is no 36-hole cut this week.
Now, let’s make some picks.

It’s official: I’m chasing a Lowry win. But, this feels like a great spot for the Irishman to contend. He’s coming off an 81 in the final round of the Masters, but that doesn’t scare me at all. He’s been playing good golf all year. Before the year’s first major championship, he had four straight top-20 finishes and he was on his way to another before that nightmare final 18 at Augusta. He’s been in the mix at Harbour several times throughout his career, finishing T-3 in 2022, T-9 in 2021, and T-3 in 2019. Maybe Rory’s win will light a fire under him to get some hardware and a new jacket of his own.

DB Straight Vibin’, let’s do this thing. Since missing two cuts in his first three starts of the season, Berger hasn’t finished worse than T-30 in seven straight events. He’s playing some golf right now. Plus, he’s finished T-3 (2020), T-13 (2021), and T-21 (2022) in his last three starts at the RBC Heritage. If Berger is gonna get his comeback win, this feels like the spot.
Bud Cauley (80/1)

Longshot pick of the week. Cauley has been playing some capital letter "G" Golf over the last month. In his last three starts, he’s finished T-6 (THE PLAYERS), T-4 (Valspar Championship), and T-5 (Valero Texas Open). The 35-year-old 'Bama Alum doesn’t have much to write home about in the course history department, but he did finish ninth at Harbour Town in 2017. Every year at the RBC, I target players who perform well at other Pete Dye tracks. Cauley’s tie for sixth last month at TPC Sawgrass made this an easy addition to the card. If you don’t love him outright, he’s +220 for a top-20 finish.
