Just when we thought the golf world was about to take a well-deserved break to celebrate the holidays, TaylorMade came barreling through with the perfect last-minute gift. It wasn't necessarily on our list—or our 2024 bingo card—but that's just because we didn't think big enough as to the potential of what this year's Team TaylorMade Christmas card could be. No, it's not another iteration of Mac Daddy Claus, think bigger. Team TaylorMade pulled out all the stops for the annual Christmas card to remake our favorite Christmas movies with our favorite tour pros with the ultimate holiday-themed main character energy.
The creativity, commitment to the bit and marketing value of this social moment is a win all around, but after much deliberation here is our definitive ranking of our favorite TaylorMade Christmas movie posters. (Scroll to the bottom to see them all in full.)
It pains us to put one of our favorite Canadian golfers last on this list and her glasses certainly bring the Ralphie vibes, but we hoped for a little more cinematic-inspired chaos to hit the "A Christmas Story" inspo home. Okay, maybe the pink shirt is a nod to the bunny costume, but give us the iconic snowsuit or leg lamp tackiness and definitely missing some "You'll shoot your eye out, kid" type energy.
While this feels like a low ranking for Mac Daddy Santa himself (though we do appreciate the Sun Day Red nod), we just don't want to even imagine the PT required to recover from a Clark Griswold-eque holiday injury. We need the G.O.A.T. in tournament form if we're gonna have—as Clark Griswold says—“The hap-hap-happiest Christmas."
After arguing for 45 minutes on the merit of "Die Hard" being a Christmas movie or if objectively it's just a great movie that gets better every year around Christmastime, our team almost missed the fact that Fleetwood has an iron in his hand for a movie they're calling "Drive Hard." After some research in the comments on Instagram, it may be a 9-iron as to resemble the 9mm gun John McClane primarily used in the movie—so close. We also couldn't rank this any higher because, while we appreciate the watch game on Fleetwood, it feels like a pretty heavy-handed product placement for a fun holiday gag.
We love everything about this, except for how close they got Korda's eyes to match the Will Ferrell "Elf" crazy stare. We can't unsee it. If asked about it, we'd expect the response to be something along the lines of "I just like to smile. Smiling's my favorite" or "I'm sorry I ruined your lives and crammed 11 cookies into the VCR.
The connections are uncanny here. Tim Allen plays Scott Calvin in "The Santa Claus" and, like in the movie, Scottie also had a misunderstanding with the authorities on a VERY important day that required quick intervention to get back to work. Well done.
Beating out two World No. 1 golfers for top billing is McIlroy's "Home Alone" reboot that just feels too real. Well, we couldn't imagine Charley Hull or Collin Morikawa being as dimwitted as Marv and Harry, but we know Hull was casted correctly as the leader of the duo. McIlroy's hijinks have certainly kept us on our toes this year and he has kinda been left to fend on his own here and there, but he always finds the most creative ways to get up and down under pressure à la Kevin McCallister's crayon Battle Plan.
