Our friend Kate Smith-Stroh is back and providing some fun updates from her first time in a major. After we connected earlier this week about her solo final round at the JM Eagle in LA, I set on the bat signal on social. And boy, am I glad I did.
Like seriously, what's better content than getting dispatches from a rookie playing in their first major? Lucky for us, Smith-Stroh was a trooper and responded with some fun little updates.
The weather has been a large topic of the week at Chevron. After Wednesday's washout, and the first round being suspended for bad conditions, the forecast has been a huge factor in the cadence of the week.
The resumption of round one and start of the second round had been delayed over an hour.
And it appears the weather saga will continue as scattered thunderstorms are predicted to pop later this afternoon.
But it's nice to know that despite the precipitation woes, Smith-Stroh is enjoying herself and the course. The Jack Nicklaus designed course is playing around 6,911 yards this week, with tons and tons of water and bunkers in play. It's long, it's demanding and according to U.S. Solheim Cup captain Angela Stanford, it's a course that "Can wear you down. It kind of lulls you to sleep a little bit. Just feels like you're hitting the same shot all day."
Unrelated to the golf itself, Chevron is pulling out the stops for the players. From courtesy cars to pre-tournament pampering, the major treatment is unlike any other!
Cadillac signed on last week to be an official sponsor of the tournament, gifting all 132 players in the field cars to travel to and from the course.
When it comes to majors, the partners and sponsors help fill the little details to elevate the experience. (Think Rolex, Mercedes Benz, and IBM for the Masters—all crucial to the overall atmosphere outside the gates of Augusta National.)
As the weekend progresses, we're selfishly rooting for Smith-Stroh to go low so we can continue to follow her major dispatches. The top 65 players and ties will move on to the weekend.
