Jordan Spieth, You Have Our Attention at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson

It's time for Jordan Spieth to get a W. All eyes are on the Texan this week at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson.

Aside from maybe Rory McIlroy, I don’t think there’s a player on Earth who hypnotizes Golf Twitter quicker and more intensely than Jordan Spieth. When his name starts to crawl up a leaderboard, when he starts to do Spieth-y things, it’s impossible to keep your mind from wondering back to when he dominated with a care-free attitude and seemingly magically Scotty Cameron.

Those were the days.

But it’s been awhile since the now 31-year-old has hoisted some hardware. His last win came at the 2022 RBC Heritage, and while he’s stuck his nose into contention a few times over the years, the scar tissue only continues to grow.

Luckily for him, his best buddy Justin Thomas supplied a shot of hope a few weeks ago at, ironically, Harbour Town Golf Links.

Thomas had been winless since the 2022 PGA Championship before his victory at this year’s edition of the RBC Heritage. He took care of Andrew Novak in extra holes and finally returned to the winner’s circle.

It only feels right that it’s Jordan Spieth’s turn.

He’s back at TPC Craig Ranch this week in his home state of Texas for THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson. With a signature event and major championship over the next two weeks, the field lacks most of the PGA TOUR’s most notable. Outside of World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, this event is open for the taking.

Despite being 4 under through 36 holes here last season, Spieth missed the cut. But in 2021, he tied for ninth, and a year earlier, he was one shot away from forcing a playoff with K.H. Lee. So I think it’s safe to say Spieth likes this place.

And he’s played some solid golf in April. It started with a tie for 12th at the Valero Texas Open before a T-14 finish at the year’s first major championship. A week later, Spieth grabbed a share of 18th in Hilton Head.

With the prospect for another Career Grand Slam on the horizon—Spieth needs to win the PGA Championship for the final leg—it’s time for the Texan to flash some form, and a win would certainly check that box to get one step closer to that iconic list.

It’s only a matter of time until Spieth gets another one—at least you’d think that’s the case—but this feels like a great spot for him to get it done.

I’m very much looking forward to a weekend filled with an endless ride on the Spieth roller coaster. Let’s do this thing.
