LIV Golf’s TV Numbers Continue to be…*Checks Notes*…Yikes

While the PGA TOUR continues to bring in millions of viewers, LIV Golf fails to reach six figures.

Some thought LIV Golf’s new TV deal with Fox would lead to bigger audiences since the broadcasts would be a little easier to find compared to The CW and LIV Golf app.

Those people would be wrong.

The league backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund continues to struggle with bringing in viewership and eyeballs to its tournaments. At last week’s event in Singapore, just 34,000 people tuned in to watch the final round. For those who aren’t educated on broadcast numbers, that’s, well, pretty damn bad.

For comparison, the PGA TOUR continues a great start to the year with 3.6 million tuning in for Sunday’s final round of THE PLAYERS Championship, according to Josh Carpenter of the Sports Buisness Journal.

He also noted that 1.5 million fans watched Monday morning’s playoff between Rory McIlroy and J.J. Spaun at TPC Sawgrass, an absurd number for a three-hole match that started at 9 a.m. ET.

And before you say, “Hey, LIV Singapore was super late for Americans, of course the TV numbers are bad,” Awful Announcing brought up a great point:

The same night that LIV Singapore aired on FS1, Formula One’s Australian Grand Prix averaged 1.1 million viewers on ESPN. That event actually began an hour and a half later than LIV Singapore, even more of an unfavorable time slot for American audiences.

It’s going to be interesting to see how the TOUR’s continued success and LIV’s continued downswing effect the ongoing talks between the TOUR, PIF and United States government as the two rival sides work toward bringing the game back together.

The folks in Ponte Vedra Beach must be pretty pumped as their leverage only grows larger.
