Golf’s Powerful Role in Ukraine

In February of 2022, Ukraine was invaded by its nuclear neighbor, Russia. It was the start of the largest European conflict since World War II.

Three years later, the fight rages on.

But through everything, golf—a brand-new sport to the country—has done its best to survive.

To kick off the ninth season of Adventures in Golf, Erik Anders Lang travels to Ukraine to discover the powerful role golf plays in a country with just six courses—and that was before the war, a few have been destroyed since the start of the conflict.

Erik talks with Denys Riabtsev, an ex-hockey player turned PGA professional turned soldier, whose true passion is teaching others the game.
