The Par 3 Contest has become one of the best parts of Masters week. It’s a well-deserved break for the players in the field as they battle both mental and physical exhaustion preparing for the year’s first major championship.
It's a traditional that goes back to the 1960s Masters Tournament with Sam Snead taking the inaugural victory. Tournament participants and non-competing past champions usually bring along their families with kids and grandkids often on the bag for some of the top pros.
The par-27 nine that nets out at 1,090 yards among DeSoto Springs Pond and Ike’s Pond has a record of 112 holes-in-one made. Just last year there were five during the cherished Wednesday tradition.
We get to see the game’s biggest stars in a light we’re not accustomed to, spending time with loved ones and simply enjoying the time they get to spend together.
Coverage of Wednesday’s Par 3 Contest begins at noon ET on ESPN+ and Disney+ before ESPN also picks it up at 2 p.m. All coverage will be available at Masters.com and in the Masters app—if you haven't already, hurry up and download the Masters app because it might just be the greatest sports app in existence.
To get ready for this year’s edition, we wanted to share a few of our favorite Par 3 Contest moments from recent years.
